Political Views

My goals are to limit the size of government, grow the economy, keep taxes low, protect the innocent, adhere to the Constitution and support liberty for all at the local, state and national level.

I have been a life long fiscal conservative and strong believer in individual liberty. My political views are more in line with the Federalist. In short, Federalist believe in the original intent of the Constitution. In the Constitution the Federal Government has specific enumerated powers and all other powers belong to the states. The Founders created the Constitution in this manner to not only avoid a monarchy but because the states were closer to the people and would be better able to provide for the specific needs of the people. In other words, the Founders new that large government, one size fits all solutions were not good for the people’s freedom or liberty.

County governments’ actions should be directed to the needs of the people living in that county. The county government should work to serve the people and their specific requirements. The county government has the ability and the responsibility to work directly with the people they serve to assure that their actions represent the peoples’ wants and desires.

Along these lines, the local government should not enact or increase any taxes without the consent of the people directly. This means the people should have a vote on any increases in taxes to which they will be subject. If the people vote to implement a tax increase to pay for a project or other needs of the government then I will support that increase. If the people are not given an opportunity to vote then I will not support any new tax or increase in taxes. It is the people’s money and they should have the opportunity to decide if they want to give it to the government or not.
